Rio Palena
Rio Palena River
The Rio Palena landscape is dominated by the unsymmetrically pointed mountain tops of the Andes mountains. Rivers radiate down through mystical rain forests forming crystal clear, emerald-green pools. The Palena is far removed from civilization, with only the occasional pasture and farm as the river stretches for mile after deserted mile to the Pacific Ocean. We have 4 different sections that we fish on the Palena. The upper float provides incredible dry fly fishing along its steep embankments, twisting eddies and sunken logs. We finish the day right at the lodge. Appetizers and drinks await you just a few steps away. The best part about our location is that you can take a break for a couple hours if you wish and head back out for the evening hatch.
Rio Palena Float Trip
The lodge rests elegantly on the banks of the Rio Palena, giving us access to over 50 miles of superb, fishable water. This is one of the most inaccessible rivers in Chile with much of it void of a road system. Our flexible program gives you the option to experience these sections with our overnight float trips, which truly sets Rio Palena Lodge apart from all other operations. We pioneered a way to float the river in comfort by creating a spike camp deep in the river valley. We have access to water that very few people ever fish. The camp is equipped with comfortable, raised, weatherproof ensuite units. These float trips are optional but come highly recommended. You and your guide will have many miles of river all to yourselves. There is nothing better than waking up on the river's edge at first light to witness the steam rising from a classic trout pool and knowing that the first fly those beautiful creatures will see is yours. This is truly a wilderness experience.
