Lagunas
Like most other Chilean lodges, we have our private lakes that we fish. In Chile these small lakes are referred to as lagunas. In the past we accessed these lagoons via horseback however, after some laborious work on the trail in, we can now drive straight to the lake. Laguna Casita is large enough to hold good numbers of fish while not having to worry about catching the same fish every time you go. However, it is small enough that a float plane could not land or take off in it. The fish in this lake are very surface oriented. It has an incredible evening hatch that should not be missed. When the weather is extremely hot you will want to make sure you are on this lake in the evening as every single fish starts to feed on dry flies. It is a sight to behold.
El Diablo is roughly the same size as Casita but boasts larger fish. The dragon flies are extremely prolific on this lake and you will see 2-5 pound fish going airborne catching damsels and dragons in mid air. We also have a 3rd lagoon that is a bit more difficult to access. It is very small and we are very careful to rest it after fishing it in order to preserve the one of a kind fishing experience it offers. It has a good population or fish in the 3-5 pound range and the fish can be extremely aggressive. Although it is a small lagoon, it too is best fished out of a boat.
