El Tigre

El Tigre is a beautiful, small crystal clear stream perfect for walking and wading. The conditions here are excellent providing anglers with small stream fishing for a high population of freely rising fish. This freestone river provides plenty of space to cast and good opportunities to spot and stock wild brook trout. Having picture perfect boulder slots, pools, and riffles, the fish come out to feed knowing that they are only a short dash to the safety of cover if disturbed. The river flows over small gravelbeds and is a series of gentle rapids punctuated by short pools and pocket water. Often there is a deep section of pocket water along one bank that will invariably hold fish when they are not out in the runs and pools feeding. Each section must be approached very carefully as the fish will lie and feed in some very shallow water and will dart for cover if disturbed. It holds great numbers of small resident brookies all season. It will however, take some huge rainbows and browns during the spring and fall.  Only a short drive away, the El Tigre provides us with some phenomenal dry fly fishing where quantity of fish is seldom an issue.   Although the average size of fish caught is much smaller than on the Palena, dry fly fishing a cystal clear, small mountain jungle creek is an experience that should not be missed.
